Qualifications:

Megan Kaufman is a Licensed Social Worker. She graduated with her Master’s in

Social Work from Northeastern Illinois University in 2022 with a specialization in working with children, teens, and family.

 

Specialties:

Megan has experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults with anxiety and depression. She is certified in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy). Megan uses DBT therapy techniques for older children and adolescents to help manage their thoughts, feelings, and emotions with healthy coping skills. She has found this to be quite successful. Megan also has several years of experience working with children and adults with developmental disabilities. She used to be a behavior therapist, who used daily problem-solving skills to assist clients, and communicated creatively and effectively to families and children with a variety of developmental disabilities. She is also a Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP) who helps clients, and their families demonstrate effective problem solving, crisis intervention skills, and allocated available community resources.

 

 

Therapy Techniques:

Megan is a relationship-oriented therapist who validates her clients’ experiences. She believes building trust is the most critical aspect for having a therapeutic bond. Megan uses DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) techniques to establish working relationships with clients as well as developing successful coping skills. Megan utilizes interpersonal effective communication to teach clients how to communicate their wants and needs for themselves. She uses this, as well as distress tolerance skills to help clients learn to manage their anxiety.

Megan is newly married and enjoys spending time with her dog. She loves taking their dog for long walks to help them stay active, which is another key aspect of taking care of one's entire self. She enjoys spending time with her family, and friends. This gives Megan time to unwind and relax. She also strives to learn more research-based techniques and skills in various theories to help her clients. Megan knows the importance of gathering more information on what researchers have found to work effectively and what does not.
